LIVE LIKE A VIKING
in a real Viking Village
During our stay in Gudvangen, we have special access to the Viking Village.
The entire area has been named “Viking Valley.”
It is a living cultural historical site, built thematically as a Viking village. Here, captivating stories of the Vikings and the era are retold without the typical museum experience, but through a real life viking experience.
The carvings are all based on Viking Age findings.
The houses in the Viking Village were built with experience from previous Viking reconstructions with local materials.
The ironworks, hinges and locks are all handmade by a blacksmith with life-long experience with the craft.
Paint used in the decorations throughout the village is all authentically made.
The construction of the village only utilized materials that would be found throughout the fjord like peat and shingle similar to the old stave churches.
